Meet Khatoon
Khatoon is an engineer by profession, but dance is where her heart truly lives. Her story started in Tehran, where she trained in traditional Persian Dance under the legendary Haydeh and Hedyeh Kishipour, two icons whose influence still shows in everything she does on stage.
After moving to the United States, she kept the rhythm going. She's been dancing, teaching, and performing at all kinds of events ever since, and for several years now she's been part of the wonderful Silk Road Dance Company. You can catch a few highlights from her past performances here.
These days, Khatoon teaches private and group lessons at her own studio, Khatoon Dance Studio in Tysons, Virginia. For students who live nearby, she's also happy to come to them, whatever feels easier and more comfortable.
She also teaches Persian Dance at the Persian Cultural Center in Vienna, Virginia, where she works with kids of all ages, helping them learn the beautiful techniques of Persian Dance and giving them the chance to perform at community events throughout the year.
And yes - "Khatoon" really is her name! It means "queen regnant" or "noble lady" and honestly, it suits her.
